Unusual ways of trave l ling DOG SLEDS, ALASKA: Imagine drifting across a white canvas of snow as a troop of husky dogs pulls your sledge – it’s like something from a Christmas movie. In reality, dog sledging isn’t quite so graceful, it can be a bumpy ride and will be accompanied by your dogs’ barks, but nonetheless it’s certainly a unique journey. For most Alaskan locals this isn’t a day-to-day way of getting around, but for tourists it’s a special way to travel, and something you can’t do in many other parts of the world. The best time to go sledging in Alaska is January-March, as lack of snow in the summer means you’re likely to be pulled by the dogs on a wheeled sledge.
Unusual ways of trave l ling LONGTAIL BOAT, THAILAND: Longtail boats are an icon of Thailand. Originally they were used in the canals that ran through Bangkok – and although the canals have now been filled and replaced with roads, the boats are still prolific in the country. As the name suggests, they are long and slim – the ideal shape for canal cruising – due to the long rod in the back of the boat which holds up the motor. Locals use these boats like public transport and riding one is an experience you can’t miss on a trip to the country.
Unusual ways of trave l ling JEEPNEY, PHILIPPINES: Known as ‘the undisputed king of the road’ in the Philippines, the Jeepney is a mammoth vehicle. When the American troops pulled out of the Philippines at the end of World War II, surplus jeeps were gifted to the locals and this is how the original jeepneys came to being. The Filipinos stripped them down, added roofs for shade and used them to re-establish public transport in the country. Nowadays, brightly decorated jeepneys are a symbol of Philippine culture and the most popular way of getting around in the country.

A dvice for travel l ers Transport: Hitch-hiking . Hitchhiking (also known as thumbing or hitching) is a means of transportation that is gained by asking people, usually strangers, for a ride in their automobile or other road vehicle. A ride is usually, but not always, free. If the hitchhiker wishes to indicate that they need a ride, they may simply make a physical gesture or display a written sign. In North America and the United Kingdom, the gesture involves extending the hitchhiker"s arm toward the road and sticking the thumb of their outstretched hand upward with the hand closed. In other parts of the world, it is more common to use a gesture where the index finger is pointed at the road . It is a nice idea to travel by car with a caravan. For me there is nothing like travel by air; it is more comfortable, more convenient and, of course, far quicker than any other method. There is none of the dust and dirt of a railway or car journey, none of the trouble of changing from train to steamer and then to another train.
With a train you have speed, comfort and pleasure combined. From the comfortable seat of a railway carriage you have a splendid view of the whole country-side. If you are hungry, you can have a meal in the dining-car; and if a journey is a long one you can have a wonderful bed in a sleeper.
The journey by bus very popular. It is convenient to travel from city to city and from country to country. In the journey you can admire the endless landscape and at the same time comfortable to relax. It is also nice to have a guide who will tell you about interesting new places.
Couchsurfing is a global community of 7 million people in more than cities all over the world. Each of them can invite another person from community to visit his homeplace, native city or be invited somewhere, for example to visit boarding country. It is really interesting.
History Couchsurfing has began in 2004 as a small project by founders Casey Fenton, Daniel Hoffer, Sebastian Le Tuan and Leonardo Bassani da Silveira. This group of students in Iceland had the idea, that people anywhere would want to share their homes with strangers (or, as they like to call them, friends you met yet).
People can use this programme only if they are under 18 years old. Most of the users are the students - young, energetic people. At the free time couchsurfers exchange the information and photos, communicate with each other and compare notes after their last traveling.

Travelling is very popular nowadays. Go to a railway station, a port or an airport in this country or abroad and you will see hundreds of people who want to go somewhere and to get there as quickly as possible. The fastest way of travelling is by plane. With a modern airliner you can travel in one hour to a place which takes a day to travel by train. Travelling by train is slower than by plane, but it nevertheless has its advantages. You can see the country you are travelling through and not only the clouds as you are flying. There are sleepers and dining-cars in passenger trains which make even the longest journey enjoyable. Some people like to travel by ship and enjoy a sea voyage or a river trip. Many people like to travel by car. Travelling by car also has its advantages: you will never miss your train, ship or plane; you can make your own time-table; you can stop wherever you wish. Travelling by car is popular for pleasure trips while people usually take a train or a plane when they are travelling on business. Travelling means getting about town too. There are many ways of getting about town. You may use tram, bus and trolley-bus routes, taxi service or the Metro. Trams, trolley-buses and buses stop to pick up passengers at special stops. Sometimes the tram, bus or trolley-bus you are on do not take you right to the place you want to go. In this case you have to take another tram, bus or trolley-bus. It means you have to change trams, buses or trolley-buses. In the Metro we often have to change for other lines.
